Develop A Photography Workflow

Develop A Photography Workflow To Enhance Your Skill

Develop A Photography Workflow To Enhance Your Skill! So, getting a decent workflow is very critical. In reality, a workflow will support you.

Ok, some of us would like to sit in front of our desk to shoot pictures. Yet, we would much rather go out and shoot on location as photographers. Rather than sit at our desks and indoor computers.

Getting a decent workflow is very critical in this situation. Besides, will help ease the post-shooting process. Workflows are not simply a photographer’s editing part of your life. In reality, a workflow will support you before, and after your photography.

There are steps for developing a method in your photography that works for you.

Choice of Gear

Camera The Canon 5D MKIII is my choice camera. It’s not very sophisticated, because if I need a better one… I just go to a rental shop.
Cards and batteries have 5 cards, 3 x 16 GB, and 8 GB of CF cards with 3 x 32 GB. Any of these cards ride with me on a days-long shooting or personal journey.
Tip: try to shake the battery if battery life runs out. I’m not playing. I’m not playing. I tried this many times successfully until the battery dies!
Lenses, flash and etc. I made sure I have a good lens and flash to create the best photograph quality. Not only to satisfy my clients but most of all to make myself confident of what I do.
Finally, my bag of choice is not the conventional camera bag. I chose a backpack with more than enough pockets. Thus, all things necessary are safe.
Why backpack you may ask? Well, I need my hands to be free when taking shots.

Steps after the shoot:

(1) On TWO external hard drives, retrieve all the images from CF cards, which are used as an archive for my RAW images.

(2) After moving the RAW images to the external hard drive, I search for the images. And count the total amount of images to ensure that all the pictures are transferred over.

(3) My computer shifts all the pictures, location or case. For eg, I download a wedding on the main storage drive.

Workflow editing

80% of my publishing exists in Lightroom (LR). If I have to do some technical editing, I use Photoshop sparingly. I invested in LR and Photoshop’s Adobe Creative Cloud. Then, loaded them both on my iMac and on my MacBook Pro (my travel companion).
My catalog Lightroom stays on an outside HD. Because of possible LR-speed problems, some people have reservations about running an external HD catalog. To date, the catalog on an outside HD did not lead to any problems with LR in terms of rpm.

Remote editing

I can’t edit images extensively in the field. Instead of editing the same day, I prefer to focus on documenting and photographing. Instead of time and effort in-field editing, I want to make a fast snapshot on my iPhone and edit with phone apps for a quick social media preview.
I’ve recently started my workflow with Lightroom Classic and Lightroom CC. It’s practical and very efficient.
